Activity 3D
Below I have listed the Domains that my Curriculum Web will cover. Below each domain is the Learning Objective. Under each Learning Objective is the VA State Standard of Learning that corresponds. Finally, I have put some of the activities that I plan to use.
KNOWLEDGE DOMAIN:
1. Learning Objective: Students will locate and identify Ireland on a World Map.
VA SOL Geography 1.4: Students will develop map skills.
Activity: Students will look at map online and point out Ireland. Students will print off, color, and cut-out a map of Ireland.
2. Learning Objective: Students will use online resources to examine the history of St. Patricks Day.
VA SOL Oral Language 1.1b: Students will tell and retell stories in a logical order.
Activity: Students read out loud with the class different links on the history.
3. Learning Objective: Students will recognize the person St. Patrick and assess his impact on Irish culture in America.
VA SOL Reading 1.9 The student will read and demonstrate comprehension of a variety of fiction and non-fiction.
Activity: Retell the life of Saint Patrick
SKILL DOMAIN:
4. Learning Objective: Students will discover and create a Shamrock as a major symbol of St. Patricks Day.
VA SOL Visual Communication 1.4 Create works of Art inspired by poems, stories, and themes.
Activity: Trace, cut-out, and decorate a shamrock.
5. Learning Objective: Students will examine leprechauns as a major symbol of St. Patricks Day and write a letter to a Leprechaun.
VA SOL Writing 1.12 The student will write to communicate ideas.
Activity: The students will write a letter to a Leprechaun using the correct format for a letter. They will ask the Leprechaun two questions that demonstrate their understanding of a Leprechaun. The students will make a Leprechaun Trap.
6. Learning Objective: Students will observe and express a traditional Irish Dance.
VA SOL Performance and Production 1.3 #2 The student will perform dances and games from other cultures.
Activity: Students will learn the steps and perform the dance in pairs or small groups.
PROCESS DOMAIN:
7. Learning Objective: Students will express appreciation of St. Patricks Day as one of our American Holidays.
VA SOL Writing 1.12 The student will write to communicate ideas.
VA SOL Civics 1.12 The student will recognize that people have diverse ethnic origins, customs, and traditions.
VA SOL C/T K-2.7 The student will use multimedia resources such as interactive books and software with graphical interfaces.
Final Activity: The students will draw the favorite thing that they have learned about on St. Patricks Day on Kid Pix. They will explain the drawing in a textbox on the Kid Pix. They will present the picture and explanation to the class.
